Labonte Qualifies 35th for Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta
HAMPTON, Ga., Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 – Bobby Labonte qualified 35th for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 during Bud Pole Qualifying Oct. 28 at Atlanta Motor Speedway Hampton, Ga.
Labonte turned a lap of 29.361 seconds, 188.822 mph in the No. 18 AsthmaControl.com Chevrolet.
Ryan Newman won the Bud Pole, his sixth consecutive at Atlanta, with a lap of 28.588, 193.928. Labonte’s teammates, Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin, qualified 10th and 25th, respectively. Stewart turned a lap of 28.922, 191.688, while Hamlin turned a lap of 29.151, 190.182. J.J. Yeley, driving a fourth JGR car, was not fast enough to make the 43-car field.
Tomorrow, the NEXTEL Cup garage is closed, but Labonte will race in the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event in the No. 47 Chevrolet/Econo Lodge/Rodeway Inn/Julie Roberts All-Star Silverado. Qualifying for the event starts at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) and the race is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 begins at 12:40 p.m. (EST) and will be broadcast live on NBC and PRN.
