JGR Signs 5 Year-Old Xing Na to Development Contract
HUNTERSVILLE, NC (April 1, 2005) - Joe Gibbs Racing has signed 5 year-old Chinese sensation Xing Na to a long term development contract marking the first female driver for the North Carolina racing team. Xing Na is from the small town of Samsang, near Nepal, in the western provices of China. In her first two years of competition in quarter bikes she racked up 23 wins and 34 top-fives in 35 races. She never finished further back than fourth in fields of up to 100 participants. For 2005 she will be moving up to Legend Bikes and compete against boys and girls up to 8 years-old. With sponsorships from a local dairy and a rice farmer she is considered a favorite to win the Golden Sunrise trophy even at her young age. "I met Xing Na and her parents on a recent trip to Hawaii," said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. Her mother showed me photos of Xing's racing career in China and I was very impressed. When I met the young lady and had a chance to talk with her I knew we needed to sign her before another NASCAR team came along. Her impeccable record in Chinese quarter midget bicycles showed that she is a winner and that's what we are looking for in a driver of the future." "I have heard of Joe Gibbs," said Na through an interpreter. "But I thought he was much older. He is a legend in China, a very wise man. I want to race my bike in America very soon." All media inquiries should be routed through April Fools, JGR interpreter. |
