Almirola Makes it Two Wins in a Row

CONCORD, NC- This season the Reggie White/Joe Gibbs Racing Diversity No. 92 Home Depot race team has been touring various tracks throughout North Carolina and Virginia. This week the Chevrolet Monte Carlo No. 92 Home Depot Team took to the track at Concord Motorsports Park.

Almirola started the Saturday night 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola Cup late model race in tenth as the green flag waved. Right away Almirola began his charge to the front. He moved into ninth on the first lap, but the first caution appeared on lap two. As the green flag waved on lap six, Almirola moved into sixth place. On lap seven, several cars battling for position got together, bringing out the second caution.

By lap 11 the green flag was shown to the field and Almirola paced himself to stay out of trouble as he picked up positions on the race track and moved into second. On lap 20 another caution was shown to the field. Four laps later the field returned to racing and Almirola continued to move forward, taking the lead from Shaun Mangum on lap 42.

As Almirola led the race, he began to check out on the field leading by half a straightaway. On lap 55, the final caution of the night, was shown because of debris on the race track. On lap 58 the field was back to racing and Almirola once again pulled away from the field extending his lead on the second place car.

After his win at Caraway Speedway last week, Almirola was not challenged for the lead as he headed to victory lane for the second week in a row. This week marked another first for The Home Depot team which made their first competitive lap and win at Concord Motorsports Park.

Almirola had this to say about racing at Concord Motorsports Park…

“Tonight was a good night for The Home Depot race team, getting our second straight win at a track where we’ve never raced. I am proud of how far our program has come and I am excited about what these wins mean for the diversity program” stated Almirola.

“I’m looking to make it three in a row next week at Kenly, that track owes us one,” said Almirola.

Notes:

The victory at Concord Motorsports Park was Almirola’s fourth win of 2005.

The team had to shed the familiar No. 92, which the team has been running proudly in memory of Reggie White, since a series weekly track competitor has been running the No. 92 all season. The team will return to the familiar No. 92 when they head to the Kenly Southern National Speedway this week in Kenly, NC.
