J.J. Yeley Indianapolis Pre-Race Notes and QuotesEvent: Kroger 200 Date: August 6, 2005 Track: Indianapolis Raceway Park Laps/Miles: 200 / 137.2 TV: TNT 8:30 PM EST Radio: MRN 8:30 PM EST DID YOU KNOW? Two weeks ago at Pikes Peak, J.J. Yeley led 86 laps and finished fifth. Those laps were the most Yeley has ever led in a single NASCAR Busch Series race. J.J. Yeley moved up to 12th in the NASCAR Busch Series driver standings this week after the Gateway race. Just eight races ago Yeley was 22nd as the circuit traveled to Nashville. But with six top-10 finishes in his last eight races, Yeley has moved all the way up to 12th and is just 30 points behind 11th and 129 points behind 10th. Last week's qualifying incident at Gateway snapped a streak of six straight top-10 starts for J.J. Yeley. At the time it was the longest current streak in the NASCAR Busch Series. In the 19 races set by qualifying speed, Yeley has 13 top-10 starts including two outside poles (California and Atlanta). This weekend's NASCAR Busch Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park will mark J.J. Yeley's first ever NASCAR event at the facility, but he is certainly no stranger to the track. He has 12 USAC starts in his storied open-wheel career, including two wins. Yeley won the USAC National Sprint Car race and the USAC National Silver Crown race in 2003. J.J. Yeley and his Joe Gibbs Racing team will promote Vigoro's Ultra Turf(tm) Summer Fertilizer plus Insect Control product on the #18 machine at IRP. Vigoro Ultra Turf Summer Fertilizer plus Insect Control is specially formulated for warm season application. In addition to a slow release fertilizer, the product also controls over 40 lawn insects. The product is a great combination that will green and protect lawns during the hot summer months and can be purchased exclusively at The Home Depot. QUOTES Driver J.J. Yeley on last week's race at Gateway - "We had to overcome a poor starting position after we were disallowed to make a qualifying lap, and I'm proud of how our Vigoro/Home Depot team responded. I just had to be really patient at the start of the race, and we gradually worked our way up to the front. The car was too tight in the center of the corner throughout the race, so we only managed to finish ninth. I guess it shows how far this team has come to be a little disappointed with that finish." Driver J.J. Yeley on this week's race at IRP - "I've been to this particular track many, many times over the years. I've enjoyed some success in the USAC events there, but I'm really looking forward to my first Busch Series race. The race at IRP is always one of the most exciting events on the Busch Series circuit year after year. Plus, the fans in the area absolutely love racing. It will be a great atmosphere, and hopefully we'll have another solid night in our Vigoro/Home Depot Chevrolet." |
