Yeley Suffers Engine Failure in California Busch Race

Race Review

Fontana, CA (September 3, 2005) - J.J. Yeley's engine in his Vigoro / Home Depot Chevrolet only lasted four laps at California Speedway on Saturday night, forcing him to finish last in the NASCAR Busch Series field of 43 competitors. "We've got a very good engine program at Joe Gibbs Racing," explained Yeley. "Obviously we had an issue tonight. As soon as the green flag waved, it didn't get up to speed like I needed, and I knew it wouldn't last long."

Yeley qualified 16th earlier in the day in NASCAR Busch Series qualifying, and when the racing action got underway, Yeley actually passed two cars on the opening lap to move up to 14th. But just moments later, his engine let go, and he coasted around to the pits and eventually to the garage area.

"The best thing to do in situations like this is to forget about it and focus on next week," said Yeley. "There's nothing I can do about it. We tested at Richmond last week, and it went very well. The Richmond weekend can't get here soon enough."

Yeley will travel to Richmond International Raceway later in the week for Friday night's Emerson Radio 250. The race will start at 7:30 PM EST on TNT.
