Marc Davis comes from the back to finish third at Hickory
HICKORY, NC (June 5, 2006) - Marc Davis driving his Joe Gibbs Racing, Levi Strauss Signature, Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS set the fast lap of 15.775 and started from the pole at Hickory Motor Speedway. But a first lap flat tire sent the Reggie White number 92 spinning, then crashing on the infield wall. Crew chief Scott Kilbury directed the repairs that sent Davis back to the rear of the 16 car field. Once again Davis, NASCAR's Drive for Diversity's youngest rookie, restarts last then begins to work his way to the front. Two laps later a turn 4 crash causes the second caution and Davis restarts 12th. With a 20 lap run the 92 is running 5th when the evenings 3rd caution come out. A sprint to the finish and Davis takes 3rd to remain the points leader by 4 over race winner Andy Mercer. This marks the mid season with Davis having 2 wins, 3 seconds, 2 thirds and 1 fourth. Additionally the Joe Gibbs Racing rookie has two pole awards, one outside pole and leads the points race. |
