Marc Davis takes pole - Finishes second at Hickory

Marc Davis is all smiles after qualifying in the Limited Late Model at Hickory Motor Speedway. Davis put his Levi Strauss Signature Coca-Cola Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS on the pole despite a track covered with drying agent from the days earlier rains. This was the fourth pole award this season for the Joe Gibbs Racing and NASCAR Drive for Diversity rookie driver.
Davis in his first full season at Hickory is sharpening his driving skills through patience and consistency. "I've got a great crew, a great car and we work as a team" said Davis. "Joe Gibbs Racing has given Marc a wonderful opportunity to pursue his racing ambitions. He continues to be a student of racing and that fuels his passion to win. J.D. Gibbs has taken a good driver and made him better" says Harry Davis Marc's dad.
From the pole Davis leads the field to the start of the 35 lap event. Davis' Levi Strauss Signature Coca-Cola Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is very fast but outside pole sitter Andy Mercer gets a great start so the Reggie White number 92 of Davis settles into the second position. Track conditions were slick from the drying agent but the field of limited late models ran incident free under green with Davis finishing second. The 16 year old JGR development driver has blended his fire and passion to win with a veteran's style of patience and consistency. Davis has 6 wins, 3 seconds, 2 thirds, 1 fourth.
The race evening brought Davis together with Chris Bristol driver of the Kodak Late Model and Malcolm Calhoun founder of Access Marketing and NASCAR's Driver for Diversity. "The only thing we're trying to do is widen the scope of opportunity," said Malcolm Calhoun, Vice President of Calhoun Enterprises, the parent company of Access Marketing.
