Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 20 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet, led the two-car Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) contingent at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn by winning Saturday’s Carfax 250 NASCAR Busch Series race. Hamlin led four times for a race-high 69 laps en route to his second win this season and the fourth of his Busch Series career. Hamlin’s triumph also marked the eighth Busch Series victory for JGR.
Brad Coleman, driver of the No. 18 Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet for JGR, finished 15th to notch his seventh top-15 finish in the 13 races he’s entered this season.
There were three caution periods for nine laps, with five drivers failing to finish the 125-lap race on the 2-mile oval.
With 25 of 35 Busch Series races in the books, the No. 20 car is fourth in owner points, 268 points behind the leading No. 29 car of Richard Childress Racing, and a healthy 446 points ahead of the fifth-place No. 33 car of Kevin Harvick Inc. The No. 18 car is 19th in owner points, 50 points outside the top-15.
Finishing 6.998 seconds behind Hamlin in the Carfax 250 was second-place Matt Kenseth, while Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Greg Biffle rounded out the top-five. Brian Vickers, Paul Menard, Todd Bodine, Casey Mears and Clint Bowyer comprised the remainder of the top-10.
The next event on the Busch Series schedule is the Aug. 24 Food City 250 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. The race starts at 8 p.m. EDT with live, high-definition coverage provided by ESPN2 beginning with its pre-race show at 7:30 p.m.
