Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 20 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet, led the two-car Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) contingent at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway by finishing seventh in Friday night’s Emerson Radio 250 NASCAR Busch Series race. It was Hamlin’s 12th top-10 finish of the season and his seventh in his last nine races.
Kevin Conway, driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs/Circuit City Chevrolet for JGR, finished 43rd after being involved in an early-race accident.
There were eight caution periods for 40 laps, with five drivers failing to finish the 252-lap race, which was extended two laps past its scheduled 250-lap distance due to a green/white/checkered finish.
With 28 of 35 Busch Series races in the books, the No. 20 car is third in owner points, 203 points behind the leading No. 29 car of Richard Childress Racing, and 37 points ahead of the fourth-place No. 21 car, also of Richard Childress Racing. The No. 18 car is 22nd in owner points, just 15 points outside the top-20.
Future JGR driver Kyle Busch scored his ninth career Busch Series victory and his second of the season by winning the Emerson Radio 250. Championship point leader Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth and Mike Bliss secured the rest of the top-five. Brian Vickers, Hamlin, Scott Wimmer, Kasey Kahne and Jason Keller comprised the remainder of the top-10.
