Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 20 Slim Jim/Act II Chevrolet, led the two-car Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) contingent at Kansas Speedway by finishing sixth in Saturday’s Yellow Transportation 300 NASCAR Busch Series race.
Kevin Conway, driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs/Wal-Mart Chevrolet for JGR, finished 25th after being involved in an accident on Lap 107. The JGR crew was able to repair the car and Conway managed to finish 184 of the 200 laps.
There were 10 caution periods for 51 laps, with seven drivers failing to finish the 200-lap race.
With 30 of 35 Busch Series races in the books, the No. 20 car is third in owner points, 76 points behind the leading No. 29 car of Richard Childress Racing, and a healthy 254 points ahead of the fourth-place No. 21 car of Richard Childress Racing. The No. 18 car is 25th in owner points, 82 points outside the top-20.
Future JGR driver Kyle Busch scored his 10th career Busch Series victory and his third of the season by winning the Yellow Transportation 300. Matt Kenseth, Casey Mears, Clint Bowyer and Jamie McMurray secured the rest of the top-five. Hamlin, Paul Menard, Jeff Burton, Brian Vickers and Greg Biffle comprised the remainder of the top-10.
The Busch Series takes a weekend off before returning to action Oct. 12 with the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. The race starts at 8 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by ESPN2 beginning with its pre-race show at 7:30 p.m.
