J.J. Yeley, driver of the No. 20 FedEx Express Chevrolet, led the two-car Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) contingent at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park by finishing 11th in Saturday’s Sam’s Town 250 NASCAR Busch Series race. In three career starts at the .75-mile Memphis oval, Yeley’s average finish is eighth.
Brad Coleman, driver of the No. 18 Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet for JGR, finished 33rd. The 19-year-old started sixth and ran up front during the early part of the race before getting caught up in one of the many accidents that marred the event.
There were a season-high and race record 25 caution periods for 117 laps, with eight drivers failing to finish the 253-lap race, which was extended three laps beyond its scheduled 250-lap distance due to a green/white/checkered finish.
With only three races remaining, the No. 20 car is second in owner points, 136 points behind the leading No. 29 car of Richard Childress Racing, and a healthy 106 points ahead of the third-place No. 60 car of Roush Fenway Racing. The No. 18 car is 24th in owner points, 57 points outside the top-20.
David Reutimann scored his first career Busch Series victory in 63 starts by winning the Sam’s Town 250. Mike Bliss, David Ragan, pole-winner Marcos Ambrose and Jason Leffler secured the rest of the top-five. Scott Wimmer, Jamie McMurray, Jason Keller, Brad Keselowski and Brian Keselowski comprised the remainder of the top-10.
The next event on the Busch Series schedule is the Nov. 3 O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. The race starts at 3:30 p.m. EDT with live, high-definition coverage provided by ESPN2 beginning with its pre-race show at 3 p.m.
