The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest

  • · Joey Logano and The Home Depot Team return to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the Dickies 500. Logano will be making just his third start at the 1.5-mile track, but second in the No. 20 Toyota Camry. The team struggled to find a good balance on the No. 20 car in April, as Logano finished in the 30th position and four laps down to the leader.
  • · Logano and The Home Depot Team moved up one spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings to 19th after their third-place run last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Logano is now 25 points out of 18th and 45 points behind Jeff Burton in 17th with three races remaining this season. The Home Depot Team has one win, three top-five and seven top-10 finishes this year. His top five's have come at three different types of tracks: a one-mile flat track (New Hampshire International Speedway), a 1.5-mile speedway (Charlotte Motor Speedway) and a restrictor-plate track (Talladega Superspeedway).

Joey Logano drove the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota to a third-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway, his second top-10 in as many races at the 2.66-mile track. Logano battled his way to the front in the closing laps by avoiding two multi-car incidents and saving fuel to take the checkered flag in third. It was the rookie's third career top-five finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and moved him up one position in the standings to 19th, within striking distance of 17th.

"It was a good run," said Logano. "The Home Depot Team battled hard all day. Restrictor place racing is interesting. You ride around the first part of the race and you're making sure that you don't wreck. Then you work to make friends so at the end of the race you have people to work with and will work with you. At the end of the run we just kept pressing it and pressing it, hoping something would come out of it. I had a good restart pushing the 9 and he was pushing that whole row ahead. That was really what got the third-place finish. It would have been interesting if had one more lap that's for sure [smiles]. You never know. I think anything could have happened."

Joey Logano Quotes: Martinsville

E-mail Print
"Last week at Charlotte was big for the team. We've had a rough few weeks so we really needed a good run to get some momentum heading into the last few races, and Martinsville is a challenging track. First and foremost, you have to keep the fenders on the car. But you also have to worry about saving your brakes and keeping your tires cool. It's easy to burn the tires up. We had a right front tire blow out in March and had to make a green flag stop. It put us several laps down. But once I got back out on the track and had some laps under my belt, we were running with the top 10 guys.

"I think it's realistic to finish in the top 10 this weekend. That would be great for The Home Depot Team. We need to fight to stay in the top 20 in points and hopefully gain a few spots before the season is over."
